NuVista Homes Celebrates 25th Anniversary in 2023

Calgary, AB – NuVista Homes is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and will be holding multiple events and offering exciting incentives to homebuyers throughout the year to mark the occasion.

The team will be holding its trade and supplier barbeque – on hold since the start of the pandemic – where NuVista Homes employees cook for and serve their trades and suppliers as a way of saying thank you. There will also be an outdoor celebrational picnic for all NuVista Homes employees and their families.

“Our team is proud of and excited about our 25-year milestone,” said Mike Plumton, Vice-President, NuVista Homes. “We look forward to celebrating together with our trades and suppliers, as well as our families, this summer.”

To thank homebuyers, NuVista Homes will be offering all purchasers $25,000 in free upgrades. And the team is also planning to show their appreciation for the community, according to Wendee Bishop, Marketing Manager & Creative Director, NuVista Homes.

“We will be giving back to the community with our 25 Gifts of Caring” she said, “which is a $500 donation to two local charities each month for 2023. Anyone can go onto our website and select one from our list of registered charities, automatically entering them into our monthly basket draw.”

A lot has happened since NuVista Homes first arrived on the scene 25 years ago. Mike has been NuVista Homes’ only VP since the beginning, having started the business unit back in 1998. He had been working for Qualico in Winnipeg for 16 years and was offered a transfer to Calgary to start up a new housing division for the company. NuVista Homes Ltd. was incorporated on June 15, 1998, with the business unit’s first showhome opening later that year.

When NuVista Homes was created, the market was very strong and it was hard for builders to find land, according to Mike. NuVista Homes’ association with the Qualico Land Division helped the business unit with a portion of land acquisition, but NuVista Homes had to acquire additional land on its own.

Since then, NuVista Homes has weathered the market cycling up and down and Mike noted that the company’s staying power and success through it all can be attributed to several key factors.

They include reacting to market demands and changes, providing exceptional customer service and high-quality product, maintaining long-term relationships with trades and suppliers, hiring and retaining an outstanding team, and persevering when it comes to obtaining land positions.

“We consistently strive to react quickly to market changes and product development to meet new community requirements,” Mike said. “For example, by targeting duplexes, villas, and 6-8 plex products when the opportunities were available.”

When it comes to customer service, Mike said NuVista Homes’ motto is to “treat our customers the way we would like to be treated, always putting yourself in the customers’ shoes when making decisions.” This customer-centered approach appears to have paid off over the years, with NuVista Homes winning consecutive New Home Warranty Service Awards, Avid Awards, and a JD Power Award.

Mike credits NuVista Homes’ employees for earning industry recognition and maintaining an excellent reputation in the market. Around 70% of the builder’s employees have been with the company for more than 15 years, and the team has doubled in size over the past 25 years.

“NuVista Homes’ team is the reason for its success over the last 25 years and will continue to be for years to come,” said Mike. “NuVista Homes’ staying power is due to the high quality of team members it has been able to attract and retain through its reputation and award-winning recognition. Qualico’s longevity in the industry also gives employees a sense of strength and stability.”

Sandra Downey, Conveyancing/Finance Administrator, NuVista Homes, started with the company 25 years ago and said the team has been like an extension of her family. She also noted the many changes she’s seen over the years.

“Being one of the first employees, it has been an interesting journey of many changes,” she said. “I have seen our team grow and our products become more innovative and diverse. We have also seen an increase in employee engagement, benefits, and job responsibilities.”

With NuVista Homes’ unwavering commitment to exceptional product and customer service, it’s easy to see why it’s been one of Alberta’s most trusted homebuilders over the last 25 years and is set to continue to be well into the future.
