Winnipeg Business Units Achieve a 15 Year Milestone in COR™ Safety Certification

Winnipeg, MB – Qualico Single Family Winnipeg (Broadview Homes and Sterling Homes) and StreetSide Developments are celebrating a 15-year milestone in COR™ certification in Manitoba this year.

The Certificate of Recognition (COR™) Program is an accreditation to help identify companies that have developed and follow a comprehensive health and safety program in their workplace that meets national standards.

“Qualico is proud to be a leader in workplace health and safety in the residential construction industry in Manitoba,” said John Daniels, Regional Vice-President, Manitoba & Saskatchewan Region. “Qualico was the first residential builder in Manitoba to obtain COR™ Certification in Manitoba. Celebrating 15 years of Single Family and Multi-Family COR certification is more than a milestone, it’s a commitment to the safety of our employees and the thousands of trades people who work on our job sites. Congratulations to our business units on their safe work and dedication to doing the right thing.”

Qualico is recognized as a leader in construction safety in the condo and residential sectors in Manitoba and beyond. This is due to a lot of hard teamwork and support from upper management. There is also a visible demonstration of safety practiced on worksites by both employees and contracting teams.

Sean Scott, Executive Director of CSAM, noted the importance of Qualico’s continued commitment to COR™ certification.

“Qualico has demonstrated exemplary commitment to safety and the well-being of its employees. As Qualico has shown over this past 15 years of COR™ certification, they continue to lead and enhance safety culture within their own company, as well as the construction industry as a whole. We here at CSAM are proud and excited to see Qualico’s continued dedication to safety,” said Sean.

The Construction Safety Association of Manitoba (CSAM) audits the program annually and every third year an external auditor audits Qualico. Audits prove that Qualico’s written safety program matches what happens on the work sites and has achieved an average score of 97 per cent over the past ten years.

“Together we have created a solid safety culture within the office and on our numerous worksites,” said Phil Fileccia, National Safety Program Development Manager at Qualico.

Qualico has also shared some of its successful program with the MHBA to help other builders protect their workers from incidents. This has had an impact in the Workers Compensation Board rates in Manitoba and has led to a reduction in rates through a 40 per cent rebate payout.
