Qualico Communities Calgary breaks ground on new Bridgeport community
Calgary, AB – Qualico Communities Calgary recently held a groundbreaking event for its new community of Bridgeport, located on the west side of Chestermere. The community will feature pathways, playfields, parks, and a 12-acre wetland that will enrich the quality of living and foster a sense of community among residents.
Around 50 people attended the event, including various stakeholders, city officials, builders, and media, with remarks delivered by Thilo Kaufmann, Vice-President, Qualico Communities Calgary and Pat Vincent, Interim Chief Administrative Officer, City of Chestermere.
The groundbreaking event followed a pipe ceremony, during which contributors to the development were joined by Elders from Tsuut’ina Nation to bless the land and ask the Creator for protection over the coming years.
Emily Smith, Director, Marketing & Customer Care, Qualico Communities Calgary, said it’s an exciting time to be launching a new community in Chestermere.
“We’ve had a lot of success with the adjacent Dawson’s Landing community and we look forward to continuing that success in Bridgeport,” said Emily. “Bridgeport’s Master Area Structure Plan was approved in 2014 and the Outline Plan and Land Use approval was passed in 2018, so it’s good to finally see shovels in the ground this year.”
Qualico Communities Calgary has received strong support for the development from the City of Chestermere.
“Qualico Communities has a remarkable presentation in terms of developments and we are so very proud of its part in the City of Chestermere,” Pat shared
The entire development of Bridgeport will include over 1,200 single-family homes, more than 280 multi-family homes, and nearly four acres of local commercial retail development.
The first phase of the community will have laned duplexes, laned single-family, and double front garage single-family homes. Qualico Communities Calgary will begin bringing on townhomes in Phase 2.
A primary focus of the community’s design is the open space system, which links residential and commercial areas to parks and natural areas. The design leverages the natural setting to create a neighbourhood that balances a mix of multi-family, townhouse, low-density residential, and commercial uses.
“Significant portions of the Bridgeport plan accommodate medium-density, multi-residential units. These types of housing product have been strategically dispersed throughout the plan area within close proximity to parks and commercial-retail uses,” said Emily.
With this mix of housing types, Bridgeport will be a desirable community for young families, individuals, and seniors. Residents will have easy access to existing nearby commercial and recreational amenities, as well as upcoming amenities located directly in the community.
Qualico Communities Calgary already held its first lot draw for Bridgeport, with sales set to begin in Q4 2024. Showhomes will open in spring 2025, and the team is aiming to have all lots and sites delivered by 2032.
