Foxridge Homes BC wins Best Energy Labeled Home – Production at CHBA BC’s 2024 Georgie Awards

Metro Vancouver, BC – Foxridge Homes BC recently won the Best Energy Labeled Home – Production award for its Hardwick model at the 32nd annual Georgie Awards. The event, hosted by the Canadian Home Builders’ Association of BC, honours BC’s best homebuilders, renovators, designers, and real estate industry professionals.

The Georgie Awards is Canada’s premier housing awards program attended by over 800 industry professionals, government officials, and industry partners. The black-tie gala features a cocktail reception, seated dinner, awards show, entertainment, and after party. The event gives builders an opportunity to showcase their projects’ quality, durability, and customer satisfaction.

Sandy Nijjer, Director, Sales & Marketing, Foxridge Homes BC, said winning the Georgie Award for Best Energy Labeled Home – Production is a great achievement and the entire Foxridge Homes BC team takes pride in it.

“The extensive effort and dedication we put into designing this home led to valuable learning experiences,” said Sandy. “As net-zero homes represent the future of construction, this recognition provided an excellent opportunity for us to showcase our capabilities.”

The Best Energy Labeled Home – Production award recognizes a homebuilder that has constructed a production-built home labeled under one or more energy efficiency programs, and a builder’s submission is judged based on sensitivity to site conditions and surrounding environments, selection of materials and resources, energy and water saving considerations, construction practices and details of certification program chosen, and innovation and design.

Foxridge Homes BC’s 3,235-sq.-ft. Hardwick model, located in the Township of Langley’s Westbrooke community, is the first net-zero home in the brand’s history, as well as the first of this type of home in the Township of Langley.

The home achieved Step 5 of the BC Energy Step Code and CHBA Net Zero certification, and has an EnerGuide Rating of 0 GJ/year, which means it’s rated to produce more energy than it consumes on an annual basis. This helps protect the homeowner from future utility rate hikes.

High-strength, low-carbon concrete was used throughout the build for things like foundations, slabs, and the exterior, offsetting the equivalent embodied carbon of 10 metric tons of CO2, which is like 3.1 passenger cars off the road, or 165 tree seedlings grown for 10 years.

A number of other sustainable features are included in the home to help lower its environmental footprint, including:

  • 20SEER cold climate heat pump as the primary heating and cooling system for the home
  • Fuel agnostic (the home uses both electricity and natural gas)
  • High-efficiency condensing tankless gas hot water tank – 95% thermal efficiency with built-in water recirculation system
  • High-efficiency heat recovery ventilator (HRV) – 80% sensible recovery efficiency (SRE), which quantifies the amount of heat recovered by the incoming fresh air from the exhaust air
  • Auxiliary backup heating provided through a P9.11 combination hydronic air handler and the condensing tankless gas water heater
  • All heating and cooling engineered as per the F280-12 room-by-room heat loss/heat gain calculations
  • Upgraded triple-pane windows and additional insulation used throughout the home
  • 60-in. drain water heat recovery system connected to the home’s laundry room, primary kitchen, and bathrooms
  • 14.2 kW solar array installed on the roof
  • 0.82 ACH @ 50Pa air tightness score

Congratulations to the Foxridge Homes BC team for this exciting award win!
