RIDE THROUGH THE ROCKIES IN SUPPORT OF HABITAT FOR HUMANITY SMASHES ITS FUNDRAISING GOAL DESPITE COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS
Calgary, AB - Since 2014, Star Building Materials Calgary has coordinated and sponsored Ride Through the Rockies, an impressive fundraising cycling event in support of Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta. To date, the event has raised over $700,000, and with a collective attitude of “the show must go on,” the 2020 event was successful as a virtual ride, amidst COVID-19 restrictions.

QUALICO'S 2019 GIFT-IN-KIND DONATION HELPS ADDICTION RECOVERY CENTRE CONSTRUCTION GET UNDERWAY
Winnipeg, MB – When someone is struggling with the challenges of addiction, having someone there to guide them down the long road of recovery can make all the difference in the world. Canadian sportscaster Scott Oake, CBC Sports and Sportsnet’s Hockey Night in Canada, wanted to contribute to addiction recovery in Manitoba after losing his own son, Bruce Oake, to addiction in 2011. Since then, Scott, his wife and Bruce’s mother Anne, and Bruce’s brother Darcy have been working tirelessly to make the Bruce Oake Recovery Centre, a long-term treatment facility located in Winnipeg, a reality.

LOOKING AT THE IMPACT OF QUALICO'S 2019 DONATION THAT HELPED MAKE THE DREAM OF PAPA KEN’S HOUSE A REALITY
Edmonton, AB – When a family learns that their child has cancer, it can be an extremely stressful and isolating experience. It can also lead to financial strain, particularly for families who live outside of large cities and travel to seek treatment for their child. Papa Ken’s House in Edmonton, run by Kids with Cancer Society Edmonton, serves a vital purpose for these rural families who travel and stay in the city while their child receives treatment. The five-bedroom house first opened in September 2018, thanks to generous donations from Qualico and other donors such as the Dave Lede Foundation and the Ken Webb Foundation.

Surrey, BC – Surrey is one of the fastest growing cities in Canada, with a population that is increasing even faster than Vancouver's. With a steady stream of new residents, the city’s healthcare services are needed more than ever. The Surrey Memorial Hospital has been expanding to meet the needs of this growing population, with the help of donors like Qualico. The long-term partnership between Qualico and the hospital has resulted in donations totaling $731,800 since 2007.

QUALICO DONATION HELPS KEEP MAIN STREET PROJECT WARMING CENTRE OPEN
Winnipeg, MB – A recent donation from Qualico is helping Main Street Project (MSP) in Winnipeg provide a comfortable drop-in warming centre for those who are experiencing homelessness. Qualico provided $10,000 to help keep the warming centre open for eight hours overnight over a 50-day period this winter. MSP is hoping Qualico’s donation will encourage others to donate so the centre can be open 24 hours a day during cold weather.

Qualico's Acts of Kindness campaign has reached the milestone of delivering 250 different $1,000 donations to local charities and not-for-profits in the communities we serve and operate in. Through the Acts of Kindness program run each year, employees are invited to submit an application to award a $1,000 donation to a charity of their choice.

CONTINUING TO PROVIDE A HIGHER EDUCATION WITH THE EXPANSION OF SAIT'S TRADES AND TECHNOLOGY COMPLEX – A LOOK BACK AT THE IMPACT OF QUALICO'S SUPPORT
Calgary, AB – For over 100 years, the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in Calgary has offered applied education focused on hands-on learning, research, and collaboration with industry partners. In 2010, Qualico helped SAIT create the Trades and Technology Complex. Along with nine other homebuilders in the region, Qualico provided a $1-million donation towards the new complex. The donation, made almost 10 years ago, is still affecting students daily, as it allowed for the growth required to increase the number of students attending the institute.

CALGARY STAFF GET CREATIVE IN DONATION TO BROWN BAGGING FOR CALGARY KIDS
Calgary, AB – In September of 2019, Calgary staff started a year-long partnership with Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids (BB4CK). Every month of the school year, a different business unit makes lunches for five schools, feeding over 200 students in need. BB4CK works in partnership with Calgary schools to make and deliver free healthy lunches for students who would otherwise go hungry. Every day there are 4,700 lunches made and delivered to Calgary kids at 225 schools, relying on 650 volunteers each week to make this happen. It is estimated that one in six Canadian children do not know where their next meal is coming from.

Regina, SK – For cancer patients, transplant recipients, car-crash victims, and many more, a blood transfusion can mean the difference between life and death. The need is constant. With the goal of helping many Canadians in need of this vital service, Pacesetter Homes Regina coordinated a blood drive for staff and trades partners at the end of November.
