Sterling Homes Becomes Qualico’s First Registered Net Zero Builder in Calgary

Calgary, AB – Contributing to Qualico’s goal to have a Net Zero certified builder in each of its markets, Sterling Homes Calgary has become Qualico’s first registered and certified Net Zero builder in Calgary with their newest showhome located in the Qualico Community of Vermilion Hill.

The 2,396-sq.-ft., four-bedroom Pierce model showcases Sterling Homes’ and Qualico’s commitment to innovation and customer service, according to Pamela Burns, Director, Sales & Marketing, Sterling Homes Calgary.

“Sterling Homes Calgary is proud to be registered as a CHBA Qualified Net Zero Builder,” she said. “With this showhome, we are demonstrating an example of innovation in building sustainably and meeting new market demand.”

Curt Keil, Vice-President, Sterling Homes Calgary, said the registration and certification helps to strengthen Sterling Homes Calgary’s and Qualico’s reputation of being a leader in Calgary’s homebuilding industry.

“This helps our value proposition with prospective customers in establishing ourselves as one of the most trusted and respected builders in the marketplace to achieve more sales, allowing us to fuel our growth,” he said. “We also feel it improves our employee engagement and corporate responsibility reputation in the marketplace.”

Curt noted that the registration and certification also helps improve Sterling Homes Calgary’s overall product quality, as it allows the builder to continue driving innovation in learning how to improve energy efficiency in a cost-effective manner. This goal will allow net zero to be obtainable for more customers.

Sterling Homes Calgary currently offers two different Net Zero packages for customers who wish to proceed with or defer their solar panel installation. Homes with these features are up to 80% more efficient than the average home, and buyers who choose these packages have lower monthly electricity, gas, and water bills

The Net Zero Energy Ready Package includes:

  • Upgraded insulation and basement slab Styrofoam
  • Hybrid electric heat pump water heater and upgraded heat recovery system
  • 98% energy-efficient tankless hot water system
  • Upgraded framing and continuous exterior air barrier
  • Enhanced HVAC and ventilation

Along with the same features offered as part of the Net Zero Energy Ready Package, the Net Zero Package includes:

  • Full solar array ($40,000 solar panel allowance)
  • Daikin Skyair heat pump
  • Daikin One+ Smart Thermostat

With the success of the Pierce model and other previous Net Zero homes the business unit has built, Sterling Homes Calgary plans to build two more Net Zero Homes in the next year, with its new showhomes in the upcoming communities of Goldwyn and Sora.
