Qualico Recognized for Community Support on National Philanthropy Day
Edmonton, AB – Qualico was recognized by the Edmonton chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals with a 2022 Health Award on National Philanthropy Day last month, for its long-standing support of the city’s University Hospital Foundation.
Recognized during National Philanthropy Day last month, the award recognizes people, companies, and groups who have engaged in acts of charity, and in giving of their time, talent, and resources to better their community and the health of others.
Qualico was nominated by the University Hospital Foundation for its recent $750,000 gift to the West Edmonton Kidney Care Centre. The donation will make it easier for people living on dialysis to transition to home therapies.
For end-stage kidney disease patients, receiving a kidney transplant can sometimes take years, and some will not be eligible for a transplant at all due to a range of factors. Dialysis is necessary to keep these patients alive. Transitioning patients to home dialysis benefits the patients themselves, as well as the larger community.
In-centre dialysis involves going in three to four times a week for four or five hours each time. In comparison, home dialysis allows patients to choose when they dialyze and how often, giving them more flexibility and freedom so they can go to work or school and spend more quality time with their families.
Being able to dialyze from the comfort of home also means that patients can control the frequency of the treatments, meaning treatments can be shorter.
“The generous donation from Qualico to West Edmonton Kidney Care clinic will ultimately make life better for Albertans living with end-stage kidney disease and speaks volumes to the incredible impact that our corporate partners have on the communities they work in,” said Dr. Jodi L. Abbott, President & CEO, University Hospital Foundation, when the donation was made earlier this year.”
The important work of the University Hospital Foundation and the West Edmonton Kidney Care Centre share Qualico’s values in building a stronger and healthier community.
“At Qualico, we meaningfully support organizations that foster a strong sense of well-being and improve health, connecting people and services within the community, said Shane Erickson, Regional VP, Qualico, Northern Alberta. “We believe that healthy lives should be accessible for all in the cities and communities that we help build.”
