The Floor Show Implements New Technology to Improve Installation Processes

Winnipeg, MB – The Floor Show is leveraging a new app called Floorcloud that remotely monitors ambient room temperature, humidity, and concrete slab moisture levels on job sites.

With the introduction of Floorcloud, the team can ensure commercial flooring products are being installed under the proper specified conditions. As well, it allows the team to save time and transportation costs by having site conditions readily available at their fingertips.

Previously, project managers would have to do multiple site visits prior to installation to ensure a site was ready for flooring to be installed. With Floorcloud, project managers can now easily see from anywhere whether a job site’s temperature or humidity range is suitable for flooring installation by simply looking at their phones.

“The parameters are based on each individual product that we load into the database,” said Dan Schille, Vice-President, The Floor Show. “So, each adhesive, floor patch, leveling compounds, and floor finish can have its data sheets uploaded to the platform for each project and that information is relayed to the sensor.”

Dan said the team has been using the app since late 2023 and was among the first in the region to do so.

“To my knowledge, we were the first in Western Canada to start working with Floorcloud,” he said. “Floorcloud wanted to start with the most trusted commercial flooring contractors in each region as part of a pilot program to ensure the platform and app worked effectively in our area as well as gain any feedback from our team for future improvements.”

The Floor Show team can find data related to site temperature, relative humidity, and dew point in Floorcloud, as well as uploaded photos of onsite issues that need to be addressed. This is particularly useful when dealing with large commercial jobs.

Floorcloud can monitor as many job sites and sensors required that The Floor Show purchases and sets up within the system. Currently, the team has five, and each one can be used individually. As long as a cell phone signal is available at a job site, the sensors can be set up.

As the app is very comprehensive and allows for strong communication between project managers and general contractors, it’s an important tool for The Floor Show.

“All of the project managers can set up the jobs individually and break out sections of each building, if necessary, by floor or suite, for example,” said Dan. “They can then link in general contractors or installers so that those individuals can also see the information or be able to add photos in real time to the job they’re linked to within the app.”

Project managers can keep general contractors informed on how they’ll get the site within the tolerance levels, or if there is no plan, project managers can opt to stop installation until the problem can be resolved.

With sensors monitoring sites 24/7, the team can also notify general contractors as soon as an issue arises, such as hoarding blowing open, windows being left open, or fuel running out on temporary heating sources in the winter, for example. The app also enables data storage for future reference, reducing risk of post-installation issues.

Floorcloud is now offering even more advantages for users like The Floor Show, since it has partnered with another testing company called Wagner.

“Wagner specializes in concrete moisture content monitoring devices,” said Dan. “We have looked into investing in probes that we can drill and plug into the concrete slabs, which we can then monitor through the Floorcloud app via Bluetooth capabilities between the probe and the Floorcloud sensor on site. This adds another layer of information and protection for us to use in the field on commercial projects.”

The Floor Show’s adoption of Floorcloud is yet another way the business unit is doing everything it can to install its product well within industry standards, maintain strong communication with general contractors, and ensure customers have a product that will perform the way it was intended to.
