The Power of Partnership

For more than 65 years, Qualico has been committed to providing shelter and vibrant communities for families to live, work, and play in.

That commitment does not stop there. As part of Qualico’s long-term vision and mandate, it also recognizes that the company has a commitment not only to its employees and customers, but also to the larger community in terms of environmental stewardship and community support.

Our aim is to support organizations within our communities that are experts on these issues. By bolstering these community leaders through the power of partnership, our contributions can be the spark, catalyst or foundation for creating a ripple effect of improvement and innovation.

Our History of Giving

The philanthropic spirit of Qualico has continued through the generations of leadership.

Our founders, Dr. David and Katherine Friesen, started small, and from their early days in the business, they felt a responsibility to help those around them where they could. Ruth and Brian Hastings continue to be pillars in the philanthropic communities in cities where Qualico has a history. Under the leadership of Kevin Van, Qualico has chosen to dedicate our impact giving in five areas: ending the cycle of poverty, promoting gender equality, ensuring sustainability in building, encouraging lifelong education, and celebrating healthy lives. We view these areas of giving as impact areas, where we feel motivated to take action.

Our Connection to the Cause

We continually review how we support communities.

Our contributions need to have lasting and practical impact, but be relevant to a modern workforce and the company leadership. Underpinning this, while in the third generation of leadership, our giving must always stay true to the giving philosophy of our founders.

Qualico, BC donates to Ishtar Transition House

Langley, BC - When “moving house,” there is often an opportunity to repurpose and donate old belongings. Which is exactly why Qualico’s British Columbia regional office connected with Ishtar Transition House this past summer, when they were moving into their new office building.
Langley, BC - When “moving house,” there is often an opportunity to repurpose and donate old belongings. Which is exactly why Qualico’s British Columbia regional office connected with Ishtar Transition House this past summer, when they were moving into their new office building.

Istar House LogoIshtar House is a twelve-bed facility that provides safe, clean, temporary emergency accommodations for women and their children leaving an abusive relationship. Based in Langley, BC, the charity runs completely on donations and is continually in need of household items including furniture, bedding, and cookware.

Qualico’s connection to Ishtar House dates back to early 2019 when they were a recipient of an Acts of Kindness donation. Building on this relationship, Jonathan Meads, Vice-President, StreetSide Developments – Metro Vancouver, was quick to jump at the opportunity.

Office chairs donated by Qualico, BC.“When we realized we had excess ‘stuff’ we wouldn’t need, it occurred to me we could donate it to Ishtar House,” said Jonathan. “I am the Section Scouter for First Fort Langley Scout Troop, and last year, two of my Chief Scouts earned their Chief Scouts Award by helping out at Ishtar House. Again, this year, I had a Scout who wanted to earn her Award, and so I reached out to her, and asked if she would like to coordinate the donations with our regional office administrator, Janet MacLean.”

The region donated several tables and chairs, a BBQ, and several boxes of plates, glasses, cutlery and various kitchen utensils. The donation also included a festive array of Christmas and Halloween decorations!

“You should have seen our big boardroom table, it was absolutely covered with donations. Piles and boxes – it was quite something,” said Janet. “The donation was much appreciated, we’re glad we could help out.”
