Qualico partners with Habitat for Humanity to break ground in Dawson’s Landing
Chestermere, AB – On Wednesday, Nov. 12, Qualico and Habitat for Humanity gathered to celebrate a significant milestone – the groundbreaking of Habitat’s new project in Dawson’s Landing.
Spanning across 1.39-acres in the Qualico community, this development is the future site of a block of a 24-unit row of affordable, three-bedroom townhomes. The project is another step forward in expanding housing supply for families in need with attainable homeownership.
“These families are doing everything right,” said Gerrad Oishi, President of Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta. “They’re working in logistics, construction, and social services – yet finding affordable housing remains out of reach. This townhome project will offer them a home and the sense of stability they have been working so hard towards.”
The collaboration between these organizations has a longstanding history, with Qualico consistently supporting Habitat’s mission to provide affordable housing in many cities. Now, Qualico Communities Dawson’s Landing development marks another milestone achievement in southern Alberta. This project is further strengthening the Qualico relationship with Habitat while inspiring broader industry engagement and community participation.
Building in the Qualico area provides significant advantages, including increased project visibility and access to Qualico’s extensive business network. These connections have fostered strong partnerships and generous support, such as a donation from one of Qualico’s trusted partners, The Borger Group of Companies, which is handling the site’s deep servicing.

“When people see how much support this project has earned it sparks a sense of collective purpose,” said Gerrad. “We are deeply grateful for the continued support, but just as thankful for the public signal that this mission is worth supporting. It fuels more collaboration, more belief, more action.”
Adding to the support, this past August, Qualico helped raise a record-setting $437,568 through the annual Ride Through the Rockies fundraiser, with 100 per cent of the funds raised directly supporting the townhome development in Dawson’s Landing.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to have such great business partners who support the causes we believe in and together we provide real opportunities for families in need” said Claudio Palumbo, Regional Vice-President, southern Alberta. “Standing alongside the future homeowners during the groundbreaking event was a special moment for all of us.”
The groundbreaking ceremony marked the official start of a build that will bring nearly 1,500 contributors – skilled tradespeople, volunteers, suppliers, and community partners – through the site in the coming months.
