Calgary, AB – Sterling Homes Calgary is turning compassion into action by supporting the Strong Like Sloane Foundation, a Calgary-based charity focused on pediatric cancer research and support for families. The partnership reflects Sterling Homes’ belief that building homes also means standing alongside families during life’s most difficult moments.

The cause is deeply personal for the Sterling Homes team. One of the builder’s homeowners, Claire, was preparing to start a new chapter in a Sterling home in the Qualico community of Harmony when her daughter, Sloane, experienced a relapse of Stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma. That reality reshaped how the team viewed its role beyond construction timelines and possession dates.

“Our team and myself have had the pleasure of getting to know Claire’s family well and their strength, transparency, and resilience is inspiring,” said Pamela Burns, Director, Sales & Marketing, Sterling Homes Calgary. “It felt natural for us to align to help their cause and the greater community that will benefit.”

A partnership shaped by personal connection

For Sterling Homes, the decision to support Strong Like Sloane went beyond choosing a charity partner. It became a way to support a family within its own homeowner community and to acknowledge how home builds are part of much larger life stories.

During the family’s home possession, Sloane’s cancer had returned, casting uncertainty over what should have been a hopeful milestone. That experience left a lasting impression on the Sterling team and reinforced the importance of community support during times of crisis. Following further treatment, Sloane is now in her second remission, and she and her family took part in the Strong Like Sloane 5K run during the Calgary Marathon weekend.

“In 2024, we started the Strong Like Sloane Foundation after watching our daughter face cancer with a strength and spirit that changed the way we saw hardship, hope, and community,” said Claire Masikewich, Co-Founder, Strong Like Sloane Foundation. “We also came to realize that only 7% of funding for cancer research in Canada goes to pediatrics yet it’s the number one cause of death by disease in kids.”

Supporting in many ways

In 2025, Pamela nominated the foundation through the Acts of Kindness program, which gives employees the opportunity to make a meaningful difference by nominating a cause or organization of their choice to receive a $1,000 donation from Qualico.

This past weekend, Sterling Homes’ Curt Keil, Pamela Burns, Kelsea Redoble, Sheena Redoble, Negin Rahmani, Rhett Duggan, and Amanada Loh participated in the Calgary Marathon, running the 5K, 10K, and full marathon distances in support of Strong Like Sloane.

Sterling Homes also sponsored a $2,500 matching day, helping raise nearly $10,000 in a single day. Overall, Strong Like Sloane raised more than $120,000 through this year’s marathon initiative, with additional fundraising still ongoing.

“As a mom, hearing Claire share her family’s story was heartbreaking, beautiful, and deeply inspiring all at once,” said Kelsea Rednoble, Sales and Customer Experience Manager, Sterling Homes Calgary. “Seeing how Sterling was a part of their journey was a special reminder of the real people behind the homes we deliver, and that there is a story behind each one.”

Looking ahead

Sterling Homes plans to continue growing its partnership with Strong Like Sloane in 2027 and beyond through increased team participation, fundraising, and awareness-building.

By aligning with Strong Like Sloane, Sterling Homes is reinforcing a simple belief: homes are more than structures. They are places where families face life’s joys and challenges together, and where community support can make a lasting difference.
