Edmonton, AB – More than 8,000 students from schools across Edmonton came together at RE/MAX Field for the fourth annual Edmonton Riverhawks School Spirit Game, enjoying a day of baseball, entertainment, and community connection.

Qualico employees were among the volunteers who helped support the event, welcoming students and teachers, assisting with school arrivals, and helping the day run smoothly for thousands of attendees.

A ballpark experience for students

The School Spirit Game is one example of how Qualico’s partnership with the Edmonton Riverhawks helps create meaningful experiences for young people beyond the traditional classroom. Through initiatives like the Inquiry School and School Spirit Game, students can learn, connect, and explore new experiences in engaging and memorable ways.

“Looking out at the stands, I saw more than 8,000 students enjoying a day at the ballpark — but I also saw future planners, engineers, construction workers, and community builders,” said Brad Armstrong, Regional Vice-President, Northern Alberta. “At Qualico, we know strong communities are built by people, and experiences like the School Spirit Game and Riverhawks Inquiry School help students learn, connect, and imagine the role they may one day play in shaping the communities around them.”

Despite the rainy weather, the energy at the ballpark remained high throughout the day. Students cheered from the stands, participated in activities, and enjoyed appearances from some of Edmonton’s favourite mascots as they traded a day in the classroom for a unique experience alongside classmates and teachers.

Brad also helped kick off the game by throwing the ceremonial first pitch.

Learning beyond the classroom

Qualico’s support of the Riverhawks extends beyond a single event. Through the Riverhawks Inquiry School, RE/MAX Field is transformed into a hands-on learning environment where elementary students can explore curriculum concepts through interactive activities, guest speakers, and real-world experiences.

Earlier this year, Brad and Nicholas Carels, Vice-President, StreetSide Edmonton, visited the Inquiry School to share insights on careers, teamwork and community building, helping students connect classroom learning with future opportunities.

A partnership rooted in community

Together, the School Spirit Game and Riverhawks Inquiry School demonstrate how community partnerships can help enrich education, foster curiosity and create lasting memories for students. By supporting these initiatives and volunteering their time, Qualico people continue to help build stronger communities and meaningful opportunities for the next generation.
