Edmonton, AB As Qualico celebrates its 75th anniversary, Pacesetter Homes Edmonton is looking to the company’s past for inspiration while designing for the future.

The builder is launching a new lineup of anniversary models that pay tribute to some of the earliest homes created by Qualico. Familiar names from those early years, including the Bonanza, Hillcrest, Ambassador, and Aristocrat, are being reintroduced through a series of modern home designs tailored to today’s homebuyers.

The idea emerged from Qualico’s 75th anniversary celebrations, which brought some of the company’s historic plans, elevations, and lot maps to the forefront.

“It wasn’t just about borrowing names from the early home designs,” said Dave Armstrong, Vice-President, Pacesetter Homes Edmonton, “our 75th anniversary models actually build in some of the original features from those first-generation plans. Good taste and good design never go out of style.”

Inspired by the past, designed for today

While the homes have been reimagined for a different era, Dave said the philosophy behind them remains remarkably similar to the one that guided Qualico’s earliest builds. As the team dug through historic plans, they found a familiar focus on maximizing living space and delivering value through thoughtful design.

The anniversary models continue that approach by prioritizing functional layouts, efficient use of space, and features that enhance everyday living. Rather than simply increasing square footage, the homes are designed around how families use their spaces today, ensuring each room serves a purpose.

“A home-buyer should walk through a home and say things like ‘it feels great,’ not ‘that feels like 1,957 square feet.'” added Dave.

The designs also incorporate modern building technologies and features. Larger windows create bright, welcoming living spaces, while innovations such as mid-velocity duct systems and enhanced insulation help improve comfort and energy performance. Although today’s homes are often built on narrower lots than in previous decades, Pacesetter Homes’ goal was to maintain a high level of livability within those footprints.

Another notable feature of the anniversary lineup is the return of split-level homes, a style that was common in earlier generations but has become less prominent in recent years.

According to Dave, many homebuilders have focused heavily on basement suite potential, while some buyers remain interested in homes designed primarily for their own family’s use. Pacesetter Homes saw an opportunity to offer something different by revisiting a format that provides flexibility and value without including features some customers may not want or need.

“Pacesetter Homes leads the market by listening to what customers actually want.”

Building on a 75-year legacy

For the Pacesetter Homes team, the campaign is about more than celebrating the past. It reflects the company’s confidence in the future and its commitment to continuing the principles that have guided Qualico for three-quarters of a century.

“From where I sit, 75 years is just the beginning,” said Dave. “And it’s a beginning strong enough to give us the confidence to go after bold ideas.”
