Empire Envelope adds framing to strengthen building envelope services

Summary

  • Empire Envelope has expanded its service offering to include framing in Edmonton and Calgary.
  • The new division allows the company to become involved earlier in the construction process and further integrate its building envelope services.
  • Empire Envelope sees framing as an opportunity to improve coordination, accountability, building performance, and customer experience.

Edmonton, AB – Empire Envelope has expanded its service offering to include framing, marking another step in the company’s evolution toward providing a complete building envelope solution for builders in Edmonton and Calgary.

The new framing service allows Empire Envelope to become involved earlier in the construction process while creating stronger connections between framing, insulation, drywall, siding, roofing, and other specialist services provided throughout a build.

“Adding framing was a natural next step in the continued growth of Empire Envelope,” said Doug Dalton, Business Relationship Manager, Empire Envelope. “As we have expanded our services, our goal is to continue providing builders with a more complete envelope solution by bringing multiple scopes together under one roof.”

Empire Envelope’s first framing project commenced in July 2026 at StreetSide’s Uplands Stage 25 Block, a 42-unit multi-family development in Edmonton. In Calgary, the framing division has completed 11 single-family homes for NuVista Homes, with more currently under construction.

Building a more integrated solution

For Empire Envelope, adding framing is about more than expanding its list of services.

“Framing strengthens our overall strategy by giving us greater involvement and visibility throughout the construction process,” said Doug. “With multiple scopes managed by Empire Envelope, we can better coordinate trades, schedules, and timelines from one stage of construction to the next.”

The integrated approach also simplifies the construction process for builders by reducing the number of companies and contacts involved in a project.

From remediation to prevention

According to Adam Mueller, Regional General Manager, Empire Envelope Edmonton, the decision to add framing was influenced by the company’s growing expertise in building envelope performance.

Historically, Empire Envelope was often called upon to identify and remediate building envelope deficiencies from outside contractors.

“Through the expansion of our services and expertise, we developed a deep understanding of the root causes of these issues, allowing us to shift our focus from remediation to prevention,” said Adam.

Adam explained that framing allows the Qualico company to play a larger role in critical building envelope details from the outset, helping support air tightness, energy efficiency, homeowner comfort, and compliance with evolving building standards.

“Our rebrand from Empire Drywall to Empire Envelope Ltd. reflects this evolution and our commitment to delivering high-performance, energy-efficient homes,” said Adam. “By ensuring critical details are executed correctly from the outset, including proper gasket installation, seamless window and door integration, and the use of advanced membrane and house wrap systems, we create tighter, more durable building envelopes that reduce air leakage, enhance homeowner comfort, and deliver lasting performance and value well beyond the warranty period,” he said.

Supporting future growth

Empire Envelope sees the new framing service as an important part of its long-term growth strategy and continued commitment to providing integrated solutions for builder partners.

The company is also exploring opportunities to utilize QWIK Frame, an innovative framing system pioneered by STAR Building Materials, on future projects. Empire Envelope believes the system aligns with its focus on corporate collaboration, efficiency, and vertical integration while offering potential benefits such as reduced waste, improved scheduling certainty, and a more predictable construction process.

“We are excited about the future growth of our organization as we continue our evolution toward becoming the complete building envelope solution for our builder partners,” said Adam.

“By offering a streamlined approach with one point of contact, we create greater communication efficiency, simplified troubleshooting and warranty support, and clear accountability throughout the project lifecycle.”
