Calgary, AB – Broadview Homes Calgary is giving customers an inside look of what goes into building a Qualico home, using a nature documentary‑style video series to explore the tools, technology, and processes that bring each home to life.
Nominated for Best Marketing Campaign and Best Digital Marketing Campaign prizes at this year’s BILD Calgary Region Awards, The Wild Kingdom of Star video series highlights how Broadview Homes and Star Building Materials Calgary work together within Qualico’s vertically integrated structure to support better quality, stronger consistency, and improved timelines for homebuyers.
The seven‑part series mixes parody and clever wordplay with technical insight, using an AI‑generated David Attenborough‑style narrator to guide viewers through Star Building Materials new 153,000 sq. ft manufacturing facility expansion in Calgary. Since its release, the content has earned more than 70,000 views across its social channels.
“We wanted Broadview customers to understand the level of precision that goes into how our homes are built,” said Andrew MacKenzie, Marketing Manager, Broadview Homes Calgary. “Giving our customers a unique look at the new Star Calgary facility, which provides our lumber packages, floor joists and roof trusses, is a fun and interesting way to connect with our audience while demonstrating how they are getting the best product available.”
Highlighting the value of vertical integration
As Qualico companies, Broadview Homes and Star Building Materials work closely to support the full construction process. The video series demonstrates how that collaboration benefits customers.
When Broadview Homes visited the brand-new Star Building Materials facility in Calgary for the first time, the marketing team saw an opportunity to show how innovations in manufacturing directly support better builds.
Automated truss lines, laser‑guided cutting systems, and one‑sixteenth‑inch joist precision all contribute to reduced waste, stronger consistency, and more efficient framing packages.
“Roof trusses, for example, isn’t just a bunch of lumber that gets slapped together on a construction site. Star Building Materials engineers it, cuts it, and assembles it with unsurpassed accuracy that improves the build from day one.”
The partnership also supports timelines, which are paramount in the construction industry. Star Building Materials’ dedicated scheduling team works directly with builders to align production capacity with construction needs, helping Broadview Homes keep its projects on track while reducing costs.
Collaboration that strengthens the customer experience
While Broadview Homes led the creative video concept, Star Building Materials supplied the technical expertise and opened its facility for filming. The teams worked together to map out the sequence of buildings, equipment demonstrations, and drone footage needed to tell the story clearly and accurately.
“They gave us full access to capture what customers need to see. Their team explained every part of the process so we could showcase how it all fits together.”
For Star Building Materials, the project offered an opportunity to help customers understand the scale of work happening behind the scenes.
“The video series offers a level of education that’s hard to get from a written description,” said Cole Hendry, Sales Manager, Star Building Materials Calgary. “Seeing the facility in action shows why precision matters in build-quality and timelines.”
Making homebuilding more transparent
The response to the series shows that customers appreciate being able to see how their homes take shape.
“When we build campaigns to connect with our customers, we always aim for a blend of education, reputation, and fun,” said Andrew. “This series hits all three, and it’s helped people understand how much goes into building a Broadview home.”
By showcasing collaboration across Qualico’s vertically integrated businesses, the videos reinforce how shared systems, technology, and processes contribute to better outcomes for homebuyers and support Qualico’s purpose of helping build better cities.
