Ruth and Brian Hastings were announced as Executive Chairs of the Board of Qualico in December of 2016. This announcement came at the end of Qualico’s 65th Anniversary year of celebrations which saw both Ruth and Brian, along with Kevin Van and the full executive team visit all of Qualico’s markets to share and celebrate Qualico’s history, and highlight the company’s direction and aspirations for the future.

“My father and mother started the company in Winnipeg in 1951,” said Ruth. “With Kevin now taking over the leadership of Qualico we have now moved into the third generation – something we are very proud of.”

“A successful future for Qualico begins with strong leadership,” said Brian. “Ruth and I are pleased to announce that Kevin Van has been appointed President of Qualico.”

“We have seen tremendous growth and success under Ruth and Brian’s leadership. Qualico’s entry into the US market in 2004, and our continuous advancement since, particularly in the Texas market has positioned us well,” said Kevin. “I want to thank Ruth and Brian for their confidence in me and look forward to their continuing counsel and advice as we continue to proudly operate as a family-owned company.  I am excited by this opportunity and honoured to take on the President role for a company with such an amazing history and tremendous potential.”

Kevin Van has held a number of positions across Qualico and has witnessed, and been an integral part of the growth and change within the company. Kevin started with Qualico in the early 1990s working with Broadview Homes in Winnipeg following University. In 1996 he moved to Edmonton to work with Sterling Homes as Sales Manager. A couple of years later, Kevin returned to Winnipeg, where he took on the position of Vice President of Qualico Multi-family in Winnipeg. While in this role, Kevin transformed the multi-family business unit into the StreetSide Developments brand that we know today.  After his years with StreetSide, Kevin then moved to the role of Assistant Branch Manager, working alongside Regional Vice President, John Daniels. In 2009 Kevin was appointed Vice President of Qualico Canada.

In his new role as President, Kevin will be responsible for many of the day-to-day management decisions and for implementing the company’s long and short term plans. Kevin will remain a member of the Executive Committee with the Regional Vice Presidents continuing to report to him. The role of Executive Vice President, held by Ron Reimer and the role of Vice President of Rancho Management Services Corporate, held by Dennis Hildebrandt will now report to the President of Qualico.

“I look forward to working for the next number of years with Kevin as the President of Qualico. There are many more opportunities that lie ahead for Qualico.” said Ron.

The announcement of Kevin’s new role comes on the heels of his 2018 keynote address at the annual managers meeting where he reinforced his focus on the guiding principles of Qualico’s success: Employee Engagement, Customer Satisfaction and Operational Excellence and how they support Qualico’s core values of: Doing the Right Thing, Superior Value, Legacy of Strength and Community Commitment.

Qualico continues to be one of the largest privately-owned integrated real estate development companies in Canada with operations in single-family and multi-family home building, community development, commercial development, property management and building services and supplies.

“I am honoured to take on this role and fully understand that in order to continue Qualico’s growth pattern, we need to operate with a continuous improvement mindset and take advantage of our collective size. Under my leadership, Qualico will continue to provide the leadership and shared corporate services to ensure the continued success of all Qualico business units,” said Kevin.
