Winnipeg, MB – The Floor Show Winnipeg earned two silver honours at the 2026 Starnet Design Awards, recognized for both Healthcare (North America) and Canadian Project of the Year for its role on the expansion of Bethesda Regional Health Centre in Steinbach.

The awards recognize The Floor Show’s contribution to a two-level, 69,745 sq. ft. addition at the existing health-care facility, originally built in the 1960s. The addition was led by LM Architectural Group | Environmental Space Planning (LM-ESP) in association with Penn-co Construction.

The addition features 15 private inpatient rooms on the main floor, seven of which are enhanced for palliative care, along with three operating theatres, a laboratory, patient lounge, spiritual room, and dedicated staff entry.

For The Floor Show, the national recognition reflects the growing strength of its commercial flooring portfolio and the trust it has built with key construction partners.

“Earning this award is a true testament to the dedication and perseverance our team shows when tackling a large project such as this one,” said Daniel Schille, Vice-President, The Floor Show, Winnipeg.

“We continue to grow our commercial flooring portfolio and have become the flooring contractor of choice to our key general contractors. They know our commercial flooring team can be trusted to deliver amazing installations on time and within budget.”

Delivering at scale in a complex environment

Health-care projects demand a higher level of coordination, precision, and attention to detail than most commercial work. Daniel added “the size and complexity of the Bethesda expansion played a major role in setting it apart.”

The work required close collaboration between The Floor Show’s commercial team and Penn-co Construction to meet strict health-care standards while maintaining schedule and budget expectations.

Tony Brenda, Commercial Manager, The Floor Show, pointed to the strength of that collaboration as a defining factor in the project’s success.

“What stood out most to me was the strong collaboration between The Floor Show, Penn-co and LM-ESP in delivering this Manitoba health-care flooring and wall project on time and on budget,” said Tony.

Design choices that support care and comfort

Flooring selections throughout the expansion were made with both clinical performance and patient experience in mind. Heterogeneous vinyl sheet flooring with a wood-look finish was used in the palliative care rooms to help create a warm, comforting, and home-like environment, while still meeting the durability, cleanability, and infection-control requirements essential in a health-care setting.

Wayfinding cues were also incorporated, with soft-curved coloured patterns. These design elements were placed at key corridor points to help guide families and visitors toward department entries and nursing care desks, supporting intuitive navigation while maintaining a calm and cohesive visual environment throughout the facility.

“This recognition is something that our team can celebrate and be proud of,” said Daniel. “It truly represents something special that our entire team can take pride in seeing all our efforts, collaboration, and hard work come to fruition by seeing this finished project come together from early planning stages to completion. This is a huge honour for The Floor Show team.”

The Starnet Design Awards recognize excellence in commercial flooring projects across Canada. For The Floor Show Winnipeg, the awards highlight its ability to successfully deliver on demanding health-care environments while contributing to spaces that support healing, dignity, and care.
