With five regions and corporate operations, the senior leadership team is responsible for driving Qualico’s success.

Kevin Van

President

Kevin Van is the President of Qualico and represents the third generation of leadership as the husband of Lisa Hastings. He launched his career with Qualico in 1994 and subsequently advanced through many areas of the business, including construction, sales, homebuilder management, regional management, and in 2010, to a corporate executive role as Vice-President of Qualico. In March 2018, Kevin was appointed President.

Today, Qualico is one of the largest integrated real estate companies in Western Canada and one of the Top 100 builders in the US. Kevin has led Qualico through much of the growth and change within the company in the past several years. In the entrepreneurial spirit of the company, Kevin is navigating the way for Qualico to take advantage of smart business opportunities and prioritize key initiatives that will position the company for continued success. This includes making strategic decisions on investments in technologies that maximize future growth, drive customer satisfaction and promote high employee engagement.

Kevin is driven to advance the products that Qualico offers to improve people’s lifestyles while balancing comfort, function and style with what is attainable for families today.

My goal is to bring longevity to our communities, encourage stronger connections to our employees, our suppliers, and our customers and ensure that we take every opportunity to improve. I own this responsibility on behalf of our Qualico family and the legacy left by our founders, but also for the future generations to come.

Ron Reimer

Executive Vice-President

Ron has been a leader in the Western Canadian real estate industry over his 40-year career at Qualico. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Ron is a graduate of the University of Winnipeg, and received his LLB from the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba.

Originally hired by Dr. David Friesen himself in 1977, Ron’s first role was legal counsel with the David Friesen and Associates law office. Ron transferred over to the Qualico operations in 1980 and has driven major business decisions at Qualico for decades. In 1988, Ron was named Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of Qualico, and was appointed Executive Vice-President in 2004. Ron’s primary areas of responsibility include the financial oversight of Qualico’s major deals, active investment projects, and revenue operations.

Ron is highly respected and regarded by financial institutions and business partners across North America. Often referred to as a ‘financial engineer,’ Ron’s opinions and insights are sought after by leaders throughout Qualico, business partners, and peers in the industry.

With Ron’s many years of experience and exceptional business acumen, he has guided Qualico throughout the evolution of the company as we navigated the economic cycles and growth of Western Canadian real estate markets.

The consolidation in the industry is the greatest challenge and the best opportunity.

Kevin Kameda

Chief Financial Officer

Kevin’s expertise in the field of finance has allowed him to help guide Qualico through opportunities for growth during his more than 25 years with the company.

Beginning as a financial analyst in 1992, Kevin quickly found himself moving into a management role. He was promoted to Vice-President, Treasurer in 2010 and then to Chief Financial Officer in 2017.

Kevin enjoys the challenge of a dynamic and growing private business, building on the track record of trust and transparency to ensure the continued support of financial and investment partners. Kevin takes pride in maintaining these relationships which provide the platform for operations to capitalize on opportunities.

Kevin graduated from the University of Manitoba BComm program, and came to Qualico with a strong background in real estate finance and analysis. His focus in the last five years has been developing the scale and capabilities of the finance team and providing corporate guidance as a member of the executive committee.

John Daniels

Regional Vice-President
Manitoba & Saskatchewan

John is responsible for Qualico operations in Winnipeg, Regina and Saskatoon, and has been leading the Manitoba & Saskatchewan region since 1999.

More about John

John gained exposure to the real estate industry early on in his career and he’s been hooked ever since. Gaining experience in markets across Canada, John came to Qualico in a leadership role. Beginning with Qualico’s multi-family business unit in 1994, John moved to the regional level in 1998.

A University of Manitoba graduate, John has served on the board of directors for the Manitoba Home Builders Association, including serving two terms as chair. Following this, John continued to serve on the Government Liaison Committee for several more years.

Today, John is providing leadership in the development and implementation of sustainable building practices. John is dedicated to sharing his expertise with the industry and supporting causes that give back to the community.

Change has always been part of our industry, which makes it both interesting and challenging. The best way for us to prepare for the future is by having well-educated, well-trained, intelligent, and creative people on the team.

Glynn Hendry

Regional Vice-President
Southern Alberta

Glynn has been in the industry for 35 years, 29 of which have been with Qualico. As Regional Vice-President, Southern Alberta, Glynn oversees Qualico’s many operations in Calgary and the surrounding communities.

Glynn moved to the Regional Vice-President position in 2009 after being Vice-President of Qualico Communities Calgary.

Glynn was drawn to the industry because of his interest in engineering subdivisions – planning, constructing, and designing communities. His love of creating a well-crafted place to call home, as well as finding solutions to industry challenges and his commitment to Calgary, has kept him in real estate ever since.

With a diploma in Civil Engineering from Saskatchewan Polytechnic (formerly SIAST) and a degree in Engineering Geomatics from the University of Calgary, Glynn has rounded out his technical know-how with an MBA from Edinburgh Business School at Heriot-Watt University. Glynn is a past chair of the Urban Development Institute, now BILD Calgary Region, as well.

Qualico’s Southern Alberta Region not only drives innovation in the area as an industry leader but also works closely with local charities to give back to Calgary. Taking the responsibility of leadership seriously, Glynn spearheads many philanthropic efforts in the region and supports causes that make Calgary a great place to live.

Shane Erickson

Regional Vice-President
Northern Alberta

Shane is responsible for the Northern Alberta Region, including both Edmonton and Fort McMurray locations. One of the largest regions in Qualico, operations span commercial and community development to single-family and multi-family homebuilding, as well as supply chain activity ranging from plumbing to truss production.

Shane began at Qualico in 2001, and has 25 years in the industry under his belt. Starting as a project manager in Qualico Communities Edmonton, Shane has built his career at Qualico advancing through Communities to the Vice-President role before becoming Regional Vice-President in 2012. Shane loves to build things and still takes joy out of seeing a neighbourhood take shape.

Shane has a diploma in Urban and Regional Planning from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), and has held various positions with the Urban Development Institute (UDI) board for both Edmonton and Alberta. Shane has been chair of UDI Edmonton and a board member for Wellspring and Kids With Cancer Society.

Shane is committed not only to the community but also the industry, working tirelessly to support causes and to strengthen the ties that keep Edmonton and the greater Northern Alberta Region thriving.

Gary Mertens

Regional Vice-President
British Columbia

Gary’s over 20-year journey with Qualico has led him to the dual role of Regional Vice-President, British Columbia and Vice-President of Foxridge Homes Metro Vancouver, one of the largest single-family homebuilders in the Lower Mainland.

More about Gary

Gary’s career began in precast concrete. However, his fascination with real estate and desire to try something new led him to Qualico. He started with Sterling Homes Calgary in 1998, following his interest to learn how to build homes from the ground up. He quickly progressed through various positions, each with greater responsibility than the last, before taking on a sales manager role. In 2012, he moved to Vancouver, accepting the role of Vice-President of Foxridge Homes, which he still holds today. In 2015, Gary took the additional title of Regional Vice-President, British Columbia.

A certified Master Home Builder, Gary has been a technical committee member for the Calgary Home Builders Association in the past, and is currently a director of the Homebuilders Association of Vancouver. Gary is proud to be able to generously give back to the communities that the region builds and to make a huge impact on the lives of local residents.

Brian Higgins

Regional Vice-President
Qualico US

Brian has four decades of experience with Qualico and has been at the helm of Qualico US operations since expansion to the US in 2004.

More about Brian

Brian is responsible for steering operations in Austin and Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas as well as managing Qualico’s US multi-family projects in Texas, California and Washington State.

His experience crosses both business verticals and international borders. Beginning with Star Building Materials in Calgary, Brian moved into various roles within single-family homebuilding operations and locations. Brian has introduced several different business units in Western Canada and knows how to be successful in both the highs and the lows of the industry cycle. His experience in driving new opportunities brought him to Austin, Texas in 2004.

Brian is a certified Master Home Builder and former board member for the Alberta New Home Warranty Program, Calgary Home Builders Association and the Habitat for Humanity Calgary Chapter. Initially, the excitement of new career paths attracted Brian into the industry. Now, his role in furthering Qualico as a respected and recognizable force in the US real estate community is what continues to drive him.
