With a steady stream of new residents, the city’s healthcare services are needed more than ever. The Surrey Memorial Hospital has been expanding to meet the needs of this growing population, with the help of donors like Qualico. The long-term partnership between Qualico and the hospital has resulted in donations totaling $731,800 since 2007.

Winnipeg, MB – A recent donation from Qualico is helping Main Street Project (MSP) in Winnipeg provide a comfortable drop-in warming centre for those who are experiencing homelessness. Qualico provided $10,000 to help keep the warming centre open for eight hours overnight over a 50-day period this winter. MSP is hoping Qualico’s donation will encourage others to donate so the centre can be open 24 hours a day during cold weather.

Qualico's Acts of Kindness campaign has reached the milestone of delivering 250 different $1,000 donations to local charities and not-for-profits in the communities we serve and operate in. Through the Acts of Kindness program run each year, employees are invited to submit an application to award a $1,000 donation to a charity of their choice.

Calgary, AB – For over 100 years, the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in Calgary has offered applied education focused on hands-on learning, research, and collaboration with industry partners. In 2010, Qualico helped SAIT create the Trades and Technology Complex. Along with nine other homebuilders in the region, Qualico provided a $1-million donation towards the new complex. The donation, made almost 10 years ago, is still affecting students daily, as it allowed for the growth required to increase the number of students attending the institute.

Calgary, AB – In September of 2019, Calgary staff started a year-long partnership with Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids (BB4CK). Every month of the school year, a different business unit makes lunches for five schools, feeding over 200 students in need. BB4CK works in partnership with Calgary schools to make and deliver free healthy lunches for students who would otherwise go hungry. Every day there are 4,700 lunches made and delivered to Calgary kids at 225 schools, relying on 650 volunteers each week to make this happen. It is estimated that one in six Canadian children do not know where their next meal is coming from.

Every year, Qualico employees are encouraged to volunteer and make an impact in their communities through the company's Volunteer Day initiative. With our Qualico Volunteer Day program, each employee can take a workday to volunteer towards a cause that is meaningful to them.

Regina, SK – For cancer patients, transplant recipients, car-crash victims, and many more, a blood transfusion can mean the difference between life and death. The need is constant. With the goal of helping many Canadians in need of this vital service, Pacesetter Homes Regina coordinated a blood drive for staff and trades partners at the end of November.

Winnipeg, MB – For the sixth year in a row, Qualico ran its annual charity parking lot ball hockey tournament, with a record-high $10,800 being raised for CancerCare Manitoba and KidSport Winnipeg. The fun and lively tournament took place in October and November over a series of four weeks in frosty Winnipeg. A total of 75 Qualico employees from different business units made up eight die-hard teams, each playing a series of round robin games over workday lunch hours.

Churchill, MB – The Polar Bears International House officially opened on November 3, 2019, thanks to the generous support of Qualico and other donors. The facility is a cutting-edge interpretive centre located in Churchill, Manitoba that will help educate visitors about polar bears and the Arctic sea ice the animals depend on.

Winnipeg, MB – Brent Delmage of Delmage Construction has been a customer and supporter of Star Building Materials Winnipeg for 30 years, and has developed close relationships with many Star Building Materials employees during that time. He would frequently bring his young granddaughter, Sophie, along on trips to pick up materials for his next job, and the two made quite an impression on the Star Building Materials’ team.

Winnipeg, MB – Each day in Winnipeg, the city’s most vulnerable populations can struggle to access basic things like food, clothing, and shelter. Main Street Project, a local non-profit organization, aims to provide a range of services to these residents, including emergency shelter and nutrition services, drug and alcohol detoxification, health advocacy and support, and counselling and housing support services.

Winnipeg, MB – On November 12, Qualico Clockwork Angels hopped back on the bike for the Sun Life Ride to defeat diabetes in support of JDRF. This year, Qualico sent two teams to take part in the stationary cycling fundraiser held at the Shark Club Sports Bar in downtown Winnipeg. The Qualico Pedal Pushers joined in and together the two teams raised $3,150 for juvenile diabetes research.
