Sterling Homes Calgary Employees Volunteer at Habitat for Humanity Build Day

2016 Volunteer DayCalgary, AB – Twenty volunteers from Sterling Homes Calgary took part in their first Build Day, in support of Habitat for Humanity, at a home site in Silver Springs last month.

Each volunteer was part of a team led by a site manager and included a mentor volunteer who worked on the site. Volunteers worked on installing overhead drywall and finishing work, such as trim, baseboards, and doors during their time at the home site.

Sterling Calgary team members also had the opportunity to engage with some homeowners and see how much the homes mean to families looking for a new start. The Habitat for Humanity team has built a strong bond with the homeowners, creating a memorable experience for everyone involved.

“The Build Day was a lot of fun. The team who ran the site was great at educating us on what Habitat for Humanity does for families and how volunteering our time contributed to their projects,” said Sarah Carefoot, Sales Manager. Sterling Homes Calgary.

“It was very cool that we got to be so involved in building a home for someone in need,” she added.

Rick Pearce, Warranty Technician, Sterling Homes Calgary, described the day as a positive learning experience.

“I learned so much about how Habitat for Humanity operates and what they do for our communities and the families they support. I am really impressed with how the Build Day was organized and supervised, and I was especially privileged to meet some of the other volunteers who helped on this day. I will definitely be volunteering again,” Rick said.

The Sterling Homes Calgary team felt that supporting Habitat for Humanity made sense, as the two organizations’ missions are very similar in enhancing lives by bringing people together and building communities to provide a better future.

“Sterling Homes Calgary has always been involved in community volunteerism and the team was excited to participate in this Build Day, where they could use their homebuilding skills to make a difference,” said Pamela Burns, Director, Sales and Marketing, Sterling Homes Calgary.

Through monthly donations, the Sterling Homes team is proud to help families get one step closer to homeownership and make a positive impact on their lives.  In addition, Curt Keil, Vice President, will be participating as a Team Captain in the upcoming Ride Through the Rockies to further support Habitat for Humanity.

Habitat for Humanity comes to the aid of families by enabling them to purchase homes with no down payment and no interest, as well as mortgage payments never exceeding more than 25 percent of each family’s total household income.  This makes homeownership more accessible and provides a solid foundation for a better, healthier future.
