Kensington Homes Celebrates 50th Anniversary in 2022

Winnipeg, MB – Kensington Homes is celebrating the deep roots it has grown in Manitoba’s homebuilding industry as the business unit marks 50 years of serving homebuyers in the province.

“We’re very honoured to be celebrating half a century as a homebuilder in Manitoba,” said Tony Balaz, Vice-President, Kensington Homes. “This exciting milestone has been achieved through the efforts and dedication of our employees throughout the years, and our strong partnerships with local suppliers, trade partners, and community developers. Many of these industry partners have been working with us for over 30 years. We look forward to recognizing them, our employees, and our customers this year.”

The homebuilder plans to recognize this milestone with activities that will span throughout 2022. This includes plans to showcase homeowner stories and photos on the company’s blog, as well as share archived images and home plans on social media. Some of the stories shared will include those of homeowners who have been repeat customers over the years, which will highlight the team’s focus in 2022 – customer retention and rewarding existing customers.

Giveaways and promotions for existing homeowners will also be part of the anniversary fun and will include exciting

collaborations with other local businesses. Much of the details are being kept under wraps, for now, to ensure that there’s an element of surprise once things have been officially rolled out.

Kensington Homes employees will have access to promotional gear like shirts and jackets that feature the special 50th anniversary logo to help them celebrate the company’s major milestone, noted Colleen Chaput, Marketing Manager, Kensington Homes.

“Everyone is feeling a sense of pride and we are trying to capture that this year,” Colleen said. “We’ve had such a long-standing presence and reputation in Manitoba and we see this anniversary as a huge accomplishment – successfully being in business for this long and doing something that we all strongly believe in, which is providing housing for families.”

Celebrations will begin during the Spring Parade of Homes, where people will see the anniversary logo in Kensington Homes’ showhomes. Other celebratory activities will start popping up in the coming months.

The company has seen some significant changes since its beginnings in December 1972. Donna Saunders, Warranty Manager, has been with Kensington Homes for 20 years and has seen first-hand how the company has adapted to ongoing changes in market conditions and customer preferences.

“When I first started, we didn’t have a computer in the office,” she said, “everything was done manually. We’ve also seen changes in things from building codes to building materials over the years, and Kensington Homes has made changes to plans and the way homes are constructed to meet any new requirements.”

Kensington Homes achieved COR certification in 2006, which verifies the comprehensive health and safety program. The company has also implemented important energy efficiency features in its homes, which benefits both homeowners and the environment.

Donna sees Kensington Homes’ staying power in the Manitoba housing market is attributed to three key elements – employees, product, and customer service.

“Fifty years shows Kensington Homes’ integrity to staff and customers, and the company’s ability to produce an excellent product that withstands the test of time and provides customers with competitive and affordable prices,” she said. “I feel like I am part of a caring family. Seeing the growth in the company and staff is very rewarding to me.”

One of the reasons Donna said she has been with the company for so long is the way employees are treated at Kensington Homes.

“Employees have many great opportunities to advance within the company,” she said. “Kensington’s management team has an excellent vision in seeing and promoting growth for their employees within the company, which is why there are long-term employees like myself here.”

The trust and commitment of Kensington Homes’ employees, as well as the high-quality product offered, means customers feel so comfortable purchasing homes from the builder that they often do it more than once.

“A lot of our homeowners have purchased multiple homes from us over the years, going through life stages where they needed something larger or smaller,” Colleen said. “They’ve come back to us, which I think speaks volumes to the type of builder we are.”

Always looking to meet the changing needs of its customers, Kensington Homes embarked on its first-ever townhome condominium project last year, Witham at Sage. Located in Winnipeg’s desirable Sage Creek community, it’s a project that the team has been excited about and that marks a new stage for Kensington Homes.

With the company’s ability to maintain strong relationships with its customers and continually change course to meet trending customer needs, all while keeping its tradition of building quality homes, Kensington Homes is positioned to see another 50 years of success building homes for Manitoba families.
