Qualico Supports Expansion and Redevelopment of Surrey’s Peace Arch Hospital

Surrey, BC – Qualico has committed to donating $100,000 over the course of four years to the Peace Arch Hospital in Surrey, BC, which will be used towards the redevelopment and expansion of the hospital’s operating room suites.

The City of Surrey is one of the fastest growing cities in Canada, with more than 500,000 people calling it home, and another 250,000 expected to arrive in the next 30 years. This rapid increase in population has put a strain on the health care services delivered at Peace Arch Hospital, and demand for increased services has become more urgent.

Late last year, the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation (PAHF) reached out with a proposal for Qualico to consider making a large donation to the hospital’s operating room campaign. Along with the opportunity to give back to the community, the decision to provide a donation also had a personal connection to the Qualico BC team, according to Amie Tran, Marketing Manager, Foxridge Homes BC.

“Qualico understands the importance of giving back to where we live, work and play,” she said. “Many of us – employees and Qualico homeowners – have personally received medical care, or know of someone who has, from the Peace Arch Hospital. We have seen first-hand the benefits of having the latest medical care, technology and equipment close to home.”

Although this is the first donation Qualico has made to the PAHF, the Qualico BC team has provided support to the foundation in other ways in the past.

“For several years, Qualico BC has supported the PAHF by attending their fundraising events,” said Amie, “such as their annual Picnic on the Pier, which takes place on the iconic White Rock Pier in South Surrey. We are also affiliated with industry colleagues and partners who are long-time supporters of the PAHF.”

Vicki Brydon, Director, Public Relations, PAHF, said the hospital’s history is itself rooted in community spirit and giving. She noted that the hospital was built by the community back in 1954 and that the land on which it sits was even donated by a community member.

“That collective philanthropic spirit still exists today,” she said. “Donations like the one from Qualico represent our community working together to enhance health care for every family that calls White Rock and South Surrey home. Donations, big and small, make an impact – every dollar truly makes a difference.”

Qualico’s donation went directly to the $12 million the PAHF funded for the OR expansion and redevelopment, which includes five new operating suites that are currently nearing the end of construction. The redevelopment will include 50 new single-patient treatment spaces, 5 new surgical suites (at 590 sq. ft. each), and the renovation of existing operating rooms.

“We are so thankful for Qualico’s commitment to enhancing surgical services at our hospital,” Vicki said. “The five new ORs will allow our surgeons to provide the best care possible, with new, modern equipment, expanded space, and better infection control. Patients will be able to have their surgeries close to home instead of having to leave their community.”

Final touches will be made and equipment will be moved in over the next month, and phase one of the redevelopment will welcome its first patients in early January 2022. Phase two (the renovation of the existing ER) will open in summer 2022.

This latest donation aligns with Qualico BC’s ongoing commitment to supporting hospitals in the region. Qualico believes in creating healthier, more vibrant and stronger communities, and this donation will be a gift that keeps on giving – benefiting future generations for years to come.
