Calgary, AB  This past August, Qualico partnered with local philanthropist Gary Nissen to sponsor the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary All-Stars for Kids campaign.

Together, Nissen and Qualico generously offered to match all donations up to $125,000. By the end of the month, campaign organizers were thrilled to discover that they had actually surpassed their fundraising goal, ultimately raising over $316,000.

The campaign itself supports the overall mandate of Big Brothers Big Sisters in seeking to create and strengthen life-changing mentoring relationships for children and youth who are facing adversity in Calgary.

To help spread the word about the power of mentoring, an impressive roster of all-stars shared their stories of mentorship throughout the campaign, including Calgary Stampeders quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell, Canadian Paralympic snowboarder Michelle Salt, Canadian curler and two-time Olympic gold medalist John Morris, and Calgary Flames NHL star Sean Monahan.

In support of the campaign, Qualico Communities, as well as members from StreetSide Developments Calgary and Rancho Realty participated in the All-Stars for Kids Day. Kids and all-stars alike had the opportunity to participate in obstacle courses, and even had the chance to beat the heat with a delicious “Qualicone” snow-cone.

Qualico’s Southern Alberta Region office also ran events internally to help raise funds, including a bingo game and a well-received Family Feud-style competition.

“Employees entered from almost every division,” said Glynn. “It was a great team building event and it was great getting to meet members of Big Brothers Big Sisters.”

Glynn went on to say, “I’ve never quite seen feedback from employees like this. The response was exceptional.”

Qualico’s support of Big Brothers Big Sisters has been long-standing, going back to the 2011. And the future is looking even brighter.

With the NHL season nearly underway, Qualico has committed to donating $100 to Big Brothers Big Sisters for every goal that Sean Monahan of the Calgary Flames scores this season. The Calgary Flames Foundation as well as Sean Monahan himself will match the donation.
